• The Mexican President noted that the preliminary reduction of 32. 9 percent in the daily average of intentional homicide victims between September 2024 to April 2025 can be attributed to the four axes of the National Security Strategy: Attention to the root causes; consolidation of the National Guard; strengthening of intelligence and investigation efforts; and coordination with the state governments.
• “What interests us is the security of Mexicans and everything we do is to guarantee such peace and security,” she explained.
• Sheinbaum pointed out that since the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, intentional homicides have displayed a downward trend, contrary to past presidential administrations in which there was an increase in victims of this crime.
• The head of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, Marcela Figueroa Franco, indicated that as of April 21, 2025, the downward trend in the daily average of intentional homicide victims continues. In September 2024, an average of 86. 9 victims was registered and in April 2025 the number had fallen to 58.3, which represents a preliminary reduction of 32.9 percent.
• As of April 21, the daily average of intentional homicide victims in annual terms is 72.3 victims, which represents a 28.1 percent reduction between 2018 and 2025.
• 7 states account for 51.5 percent of intentional homicide victims: Guanajuato with 7.8%; State of Mexico with 8.2%; Sinaloa with 6.9%; Jalisco with 6.5%, Guerrero with 6.1%; Michoacán with 6%, and Baja California with 5.9%.
• Minister of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch reported that from October 1, 2024 to April 20, 2025, some 18,712 suspects were arrested for high impact crimes. In addition, more than 9,600 firearms, 144 tons of drugs, including close to 1.5 tons and more than 2 million fentanyl pills, were seized. In the same period, more than 839 drug labs and storage facilities for methamphetamines inputs have been dismantled in 17 states, and more than one million liters and over 200 tons of chemical substances have been seized in these operations.
• As part of Operation Northern Border, from February 5 to April 20, 2025, more than 2,500 suspects have been arrested for high-impact crimes and 2,250 firearms, nearly 365,000 rounds of various types of ammunition, more than 11,000 magazines, and slightly over 27 tons of drugs, including more than 163 kilos and over 1.13 million fentanyl pills have been seized.
• As a result of cyber patrol and investigative efforts, 200 accounts that were used to gain recruits for organized crime have been deleted from different social networks and 41 are in the process of being investigated.
• As part of the Strategy of Attention to the Root Causes, 1,534 Peace Conferences have been held. In addition, with the Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace campaign, from January 10, 2025 to date, 1,381 firearms have been turned in, of which 335 were rifles, 920 handguns, and 126 grenades. In addition, 3,373 war toys have been exchanged for educational and recreational toys.
