Despite the unexpected withdrawal of U.S. President Donald Trump from the G7 Summit on Tuesday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo continues with her diplomatic agenda on the final day of the international forum that brings together the world’s major economies.

Sheinbaum had a bilateral meeting scheduled with Trump from 3:40 to 4:40 p.m., which would have marked their first face-to-face encounter since the Republican’s return to the White House. However, the meeting was canceled following the U.S. president decision to leave the summit, which is being held in Kananaskis, Alberta.

So far, no official reason has been given for his early departure, though it comes amid a wave of international protests over his immigration, climate, and human rights policies, as well as escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.

Diplomatic sources confirmed that Sheinbaum’s team was notified of the decision just a few hours before the scheduled meeting, without further details from the U.S. delegation.

Despite the unexpected turn of events, the Mexican President remains actively engaged in the G7, which concludes later today. Her agenda still includes bilateral meetings with key leaders such as Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney; Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi; President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen; President of the European Council António Costa; and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

At the closing session, leaders are expected to issue a joint declaration focusing on commitments related to climate change, technological cooperation, energy transition, and geopolitical challenges. Mexico’s participation as an invited country has centered on strengthening multilateral ties and promoting a development vision grounded in social justice and sustainability.

During her visit, Sheinbaum has reiterated that Mexico is committed to a foreign policy based on respect, sovereignty, and international cooperation. The Mexican delegation also includes the ministers of Foreign Relations, Economy, Security, and Finance, who have held parallel meetings with their international counterparts.
