On Tuesday, the Mexican government unveiled “Taruk”,  the first electric bus to be developed, designed, and manufactured entirely in the country. This unveil is part of an ongoing strategy to strengthen investment and bolster national economic growth.

Secretary of Economy Marcelo Ebrard awarded the “Made in Mexico” distinction to Taruk, whose name means “roadrunner” in the Yaqui language. This 100% Mexican electric bus is the result of collaboration between specialized heavy vehicle industries Megaflux and DINA, as well as the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation (SECIHTI).

“Mexico has been successful. We were a country that did not export vehicles, and today we are the sixth-largest global exporter, and we are continuing to grow. And if you take into consideration the production of auto parts, even more so,” said Secretary Ebrard during the presentation of the Made in Mexico distinction, which recognizes high-quality products manufactured in the country.

On the X account of the Mexican Government’s Ministry of Economy, it was published that Mexico is a global automotive exporter, asking, “Why not produce our own vehicles if we are already an exporting powerhouse?”

The post also emphasized the importance of joint efforts: “This achievement proves that when the government, industry, and science come together, Mexico moves forward.”

Regarding the Made in Mexico program, which seeks to increase national pride and innovative capabilities, the official highlighted that this program is a key part of the Mexico Plan, designed by President Claudia Sheinbaum to drive investment and national growth.

“We are facing the complex issue of what the future economic, not political, arrangement with the United States will be. Mexico exports more than one million vehicles to the U.S. and today, the debate is about what future this model will have,” said the Secretary of Economy.

During the event, Secretary Ebrard announced that this Wednesday, March 26, he will travel to Washington, D.C., to continue economic and trade negotiations with the United States.
