The 50th edition of Mexico’s Tianguis Turístico fair will be held next year in Acapulco. The port city will have the opportunity to showcase its resilience and why it has long been emblematic of the biggest tourism celebration in the Americas.

Mexico’s Minister of Tourism Josefina Rodríguez Zamora led the handover ceremony to the state of Guerrero, detailing that the next Tianguis Turístico will take place from April 27 to 30, 2026.

Accompanied by the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) symbolically handed over the baton to the governor of Guerrero, Evelyn Salgado Pineda.
“Receiving the baton as the host state or region for the Tianguis Turístico México is a historic responsibility to both national and international tourism—but above all, to the people of Mexico,” she said.

She emphasized that the return of the Americas’ top tourism event to the iconic port city marks a turning point in the story of a renewed Acapulco. The port city suffered extensive damage in Category 5 Hurricane Otis in October 2023. The Mexican government has worked hard toward its economic recovery through the implementation of the comprehensive strategy ‘Acapulco se Transforma Contigo’ (“Acapulco Transforms With You”), which has channeled more than 15 billion pesos (US$770 million) from various funds into the rehabilitation of tourism, urban, and social infrastructure.

She also affirmed that the recovery of this historic tourist destination became evident during the recent Holy Week holiday period, when the city reached an average hotel occupancy rate of 95.2%, up 43.7% from 2024; hosted 191,350 visitors, a 68.4% increase from 2024; and generated almost 4.02 billion pesos (US$205 million) in tourism revenue, 59.2% more than the previous year.

“The 2026 Tianguis Turístico is in the good hands of the beautiful port of Acapulco, where tourism accounts for 62.6% of Guerrero’s tourism GDP and 17.6% of the city’s GDP,” said Rodríguez Zamora.

“Acapulco, we’ll see you from April 27 to 30, 2026, stronger than ever, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Tianguis Turístico that you saw born and that fills us all with pride!” she concluded.

Deputy Minister of Tourism and coordinator of Acapulco’s economic, cultural, and social reactivation, Sebastián Ramírez Mendoza, reaffirmed his and President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s commitment to positioning Acapulco as a global tourism reference point.

As part of the ‘Acapulco se Transforma Contigo’ program, he announced the upcoming launch of the Maribús aquatic public transportation system, as well as the renovated cruise terminal.
