Mexico expects 14.7 million tourists during Holy Week

According to the federal government’s expectations, it is estimated that the total number of tourists traveling through Mexico will reach 14,756,000 during this holiday period for Holy Week and Easter, 2.1 percent more than in 2024.

This was reported by the head of the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, who added that total tourist consumption will reach more than MXN 282 billion (Mexican pesos) which represents a 4.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Rodríguez Zamora specified that, in this holiday season, which will run from April 12 to April 26, 2025, an average occupancy of 65.7%is projected nationwide, a 2.2% increase from last year.

She said that around 6,578,000 tourists are expected to arrive at hotels (1.6% more than in 2024), of which 73.8% will be domestic and 26.2% international tourists. In addition, she explained that an estimated 7,462,000 domestic tourists will opt for other forms of accommodation, such as staying with family and friends or in second homes. Meanwhile, 716,000 international tourists are expected to use digital accommodation platforms.

Rodríguez Zamora emphasized that the projected income from accommodation during the upcoming holidays is MXN 15.7 billion. She added that hotel occupancy in key destinations will be Nuevo Nayarit (88%), Riviera Maya (87%), Cancún (84%); Los Cabos (83%), Puerto Vallarta (82%), Huatulco (80%), Querétaro (76%), Monterrey (76%), Tecate (76%), Mérida (73%), Mazatlán (71%), and Campeche (69%).

The Minister of Tourism celebrated the fact that these figures confirm the positive trend in national tourism and concluded that the economic impact and the direct and indirect benefits for resident communities during Holy Week and Easter 2025 will contribute to strengthening economic development and will continue to generate jobs in various sectors such as hotels, restaurants, and transportation.
