President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo clarified that she has never encouraged violent protests in Los Angeles, as was mistakenly claimed, she said, by U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem.
“In response to a question from a media outlet, the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security mistakenly claimed that I encouraged violent protests in Los Angeles. I want to make it clear that this is absolutely false,” she wrote on her X account.
On social media, the president shared a clip from Monday’s morning presidential press conference, known as the “Mañanera”, in which she condemned violent demonstrations.
“We do not agree with violent actions as a form of protest. The burning of patrol cars seems more like an act of provocation than of resistance. Let it be clear: we condemn violence no matter where it comes from. We urge the Mexican community to act peacefully and not succumb to provocations,” the President explained.
She emphasized that dialogue and respect are the best paths to understanding between our peoples and nations, and stated that this misunderstanding will be clarified.
Calls for Comprehensive Immigration Reform
On Tuesday morning, President Claudia Sheinbaum reiterated her call to Donald Trump’s administration to recognize the historic contribution made by our migrant compatriots to the U.S. economy.
She said the best way to honor them is to pass a comprehensive immigration reform that benefits migrant communities.
“Our request to the U.S. government is for this comprehensive immigration reform that acknowledges the role of Mexicans who have lived there for a long time, who are essential to the U.S. economy and deserve to be recognized and supported,” said the President.
