SUMMARY
A New Era in the Justice System
President Claudia Sheinbaum said that with the arrival of new justices, magistrates, and judges, the judicial branch is beginning a period of historic transformation. She noted that this is a “very profound” and unprecedented change, aimed at ensuring that those who administer justice answer to the population and not to private interests. Sheinbaum emphasized that this new judicial system will be better than the previous one because its members were elected by the people.
Risks of Sugary Drinks
Minister of Health David Kershenobich warned that consuming sugary drinks poses a serious risk, especially for children and adolescents. He explained that children under 2 years old are almost twice as likely to consume these drinks if adults at home do so, while for adolescents the likelihood increases up to nine times.
Frequent consumption causes “spikes and drops” in glucose levels that can trigger anxiety and depression in those who consume around four drinks a day, increasing the risk by 30% to 40%. In 2021, a high body mass index contributed to 118,000 deaths in Mexico (10.6% of the total) and to 4.2 million years of life lost. The Ministry of Health emphasized the urgency of reducing consumption to protect the population’s physical and mental health.
New Hospitals to Strengthen Healthcare in Mexico
Zoé Robledo, head of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) announced the opening of new hospitals in Ciudad Juárez, Ensenada, Iztapalapa, Puebla, Tula, Navojoa, Guanajuato, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Ciudad del Carmen, and Hermosillo.
Martí Batres, head of the Institute for Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), reported on new Family Medicine Units in Coahuila, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Quintana Roo, Yucatán, Baja California, and Campeche, as well as expansions of clinics and hospitals in Cancún, Naucalpan, Tecámac, and Acapulco.
The reopening of the “Calero” Hospital in Cuernavaca is also being studied. These actions aim to expand medical coverage, improve care, and guarantee access to quality healthcare services for the population.
Measles in Mexico: Numbers and Vaccinations
As of September 1, 2025, Mexico has reported 4,353 confirmed cases of measles and 17 deaths, 95% of which are concentrated in Chihuahua. Cases have also been reported in Sonora, Coahuila, and Guerrero.
The Ministry of Health emphasized that vaccination with two doses is the most effective way to prevent the disease. Currently, national coverage reaches 81.1%, with a goal of reaching 95%.
A catch-up vaccination is also being administered for children under six years old affected by low vaccination rates during the pandemic, with a recovery rate of 92% and nearly 6 million doses applied so far this year. Measles, highly contagious, can cause serious complications and even death.
Relationship of Respect with the United States
The President reported that today, September 2, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will arrive in the afternoon at the Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA), where he will be received by Minister of Foreign Relations Juan Ramón de la Fuente. Tomorrow, September 3, a bilateral meeting will be held, followed by a joint press conference with the foreign minister. This meeting reflects a relationship of respect and collaboration, always within the framework of national sovereignty.
Sheinbaum to the Opposition: “Do Yoga”
The President ironically suggested that the opposition should practice yoga to control their anger and frustration. She pointed out that, lacking their own projects, they only seek to revive practices of the past such as neoliberalism, repression, and censorship, while her government moves forward with proposals suited to Mexico’s current needs.
National Tour to Report to the People of Mexico
Starting September 5, the President will tour all 32 states, visiting up to three states per day to directly inform the population about government advances, public work projects, wellbeing programs, and future projects.
The President highlighted that this tour aims to strengthen transparency and show the impact of her policies in every region of Mexico.
National Independence Day Celebration in the Zócalo
Sheinbaum confirmed that La Arrolladora Banda El Limón, along with Alejandra Ávalos and Legado de Grandeza, will perform at Mexico City’s Zócalo on September 15 during the Independence Day Eve celebration (“El Grito”). The concert will be free and mark the first Independence Day celebration of the new federal government, aiming to keep traditions alive and ensure a safe and large public event.
From Neoliberal Failure to the Mexican Wellbeing Model
The President explained that neoliberalism failed because the theory that wealth would “trickle down” never materialized—instead, inequality, poverty, and corruption increased. She recalled that López Obrador’s victory in 2018 was the result of collective discontent and opened the way for a new economic model.
Even Vicente Fox acknowledged his mistake in not raising wages to redistribute wealth. Today, with a model born from Mexican history and the conception of the Mexican state, the results are clear: 13.5 million people have emerged from poverty and inequality has decreased, with benefits also reaching sectors such as banking.
