Amid the controversy over tariffs, President Donald Trump said that his Mexican counterpart, Claudia Sheinbaum, is a “fantastic and elegant” woman.
The Republican president said he does not want to harm Mexico with the punitive tariff policy applied by his administration. However, he noted that at least three auto plants have halted construction in Mexico and will be installed in the United States.
“I don’t want to hurt Mexico. I like Mexico. And by the way, I think the new president is a terrific person and a fantastic woman. We had many conversations. She is very elegant, she’s a fantastic person and she’s been very nice, very, very nice”, he said.
During his participation in a cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump praised his relationship with the Mexican president.
