Trump's Lies Triggered the "Blue Tsunami"

The American people sent a loud and clear message in the midterm elections: Republicans are not doing their job well. With historic victories like the one in Texas, Democrats are consolidating their majority in both chambers of Congress. Votes are still being counted, but it is clear that President Donald Trump's broken promises have had devastating consequences for the entire party.
In a post on the social network X, Vice President JD Vance declared that: "The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night too." This statement omits a crucial point: a central promise of Donald Trump's presidential campaign was "no more wars." In fact, he devoted an important part of his 2025 inaugural address to declaring that: "We will measure our triumphs not only by the battles we win, but also by the wars we end and, perhaps most important of all, the wars we never get into."
Donald Trump also constantly criticized the Biden administration's decisions in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, saying that "that war would not have happened if I were president." He also lied when he said he would resolve this conflict in a few days, a statement that, though totally detached from reality, gave hope to many of his voters that resources would stop being spent on a conflict they felt was none of the country's business.
As a result of this broken promise, he also trampled on the commitment to improve economic conditions for the working class. The conflict in Iran brought with it an expected rise in the price of hydrocarbons, which directly hit Americans' wallets. Not only were the jobs and stability of those who depend on diesel, such as truckers and farmers, affected; the prices of the goods these workers grow and transport also went up.
To top it off, when Trump found himself cornered by reporters' questions about rising prices (also a consequence of the illegal tariffs imposed by his administration), he declared that the word affordability was a "Democrat conspiracy."
These statements are made even more outrageous by the fact that Trump himself declared in his inaugural address that he would "direct his cabinet to use the great powers at their disposal to defeat record inflation and lower costs and prices."
A quick trip to the supermarket is enough to confirm that this promise was not kept, but we also have the figures: according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, inflation went from 3.0 percent in September 2025 to 3.7 percent in September 2026.
Prices also soared because of the trade war Donald Trump started with his strongest trading allies. After years of trade cooperation and a free trade agreement with Mexico, the president launched a series of attacks on exports from that country. To put what this means in context, according to figures from the Mexican government, exports to the United States amount to 65,901 million dollars during 2026.
Perhaps the most palpable and obvious lie is that his new immigration policy would only affect "criminals" and "dangerous aliens." Over these two years we have heard Latino voters bitterly regret giving their vote to the current president. The conclusion of those who supported Republicans while standing at the ballot box was this: "I'm not illegal, so I have nothing to fear."
After the Supreme Court gave the green light to agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain people based on their race, language or workplace, many Latinos realized the mistake they had made.
It is not that everyone detained by ICE was taken to migrant detention camps, but the violation of the presumption of innocence and the violence with which federal agents conduct themselves are evident.
And inhuman conditions have also been reported inside these facilities, from a lack of emergency medical care to a lack of food. Various media outlets report that the figure rises to between 55 and 60 deaths; however, without reliable reports from the Trump administration, the truth remains only half told.
Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum has denounced the deaths of Mexicans inside these detention centers and announced that a legal process will be carried out to demand answers about what happened.
For many Latinos in the United States, this has been the last straw; it is not about deporting, it is not about catching "criminals," it is about making hatred and cruelty a political tool.
Neither a stronger economy, nor fewer wars, nor safer streets: the Trump administration has failed on every one of its promises, and American voters went to the polls to send a message: we no longer believe your lies.
