Mexico Marks Two Years of Government with Economic Stability and Broader Social Support
The president presented her government report highlighting major advances for the country

On September 1, 2026, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo presented her Second Government Report. The balance describes a country that is growing with stability and distributing its gains more fairly.
The economic indicators support that reading. Annual inflation was 3.26% in August, within Banco de México's variability range for the fourth consecutive month. The unemployment rate was 2.7% in the second quarter, one of the lowest among OECD countries, and in July 22.8 million formal jobs were registered. The monthly minimum wage reached 9,582 pesos, about 521 dollars, 154% higher in real terms than in 2018. Foreign direct investment totaled 34,968 million dollars in the first half, the highest figure for a comparable period.
On the social front, the Wellbeing Programs will reach 42.8 million people by the end of 2026. INEGI's 2024 measurement placed poverty at 29.6% of the population, the lowest level in the 2016-2024 series, and 13.4 million people left that condition since 2018. In addition, the daily average of intentional homicides fell from 86.9 to 40.8 between September 2024 and August 2026, a reduction of 53%.
For the Latino community in the United States, the balance has a close reading. The report notes that Mexico conducts its relationship with the United States through dialogue and cooperation, always respecting sovereignty. Those with family, businesses or investment plans in Mexico find, according to the document, an exchange rate of around 18.4 pesos per dollar and an economy with price stability.
