Ana Teresa Ramírez Valdés, general director of the Latino Donor Collaborative (LDC), said that 38 million people of Mexican origin currently live in the United States. Of these, 4 million are undocumented, and 34 million are residents or citizens.
She also noted that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of people of Mexican origin in the United States is distributed as follows:
- GDP of all people of Mexican descent: US$2.06 trillion
- GDP of people born in Mexico: US$781.2 billion
In examining this data from the LDC, it was noted that if people of Mexican origin in the United States were an independent economy, they would rank as the tenth largest economy worldwide.
During her participation in the morning presidential press conference, Ramírez Valdés also noted that the young Latinos driving U.S. economic growth were mostly born in the country and are mainly of Mexican origin.
LDC data reveals that one in four members of Generation Z and Generation Alpha in the United States is Latino, with most being of Mexican origin.
In addition, 16.1% of these American youths under 18 years old are of Mexican origin.
Women of Mexican Origin Are Also a Key Force:
- 1 in 6 youth under 18 in the United States is of Mexican origin
- 69% of Latinas participate in the labor force
- 86% of consumer decisions in Latino households are made by women
For this current decade, from 2020 to 2030, LDC projects that 78% of new American workers will be Latino, with young people of Mexican origin forming the core of this shift in the labor force.
